The Minister of Economic Development Federica Guidi and Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources Greg Rickford, in Rome for the G7 Energy Ministerial Meeting, discussed the current tensions on energy markets, with a special focus on the need for common action to support a collective energy security framework as well as reinforced collaboration between Italy and Canada on energy security, diversification of supply sources, renewables and smart grids.
Guidi: “The cooperation between our two countries is particularly relevant in the area of Liquefied Natural Gas”.
Rickford: “Canada and Italy are discussing collaboration that supports a long-term, secure, energy future”.
Rome, 5th may 2014 – Minister of Economic Development Federica Guidi had a meeting today at the Ministry in Via Veneto in Rome with Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources Greg Rickford, on the occasion of the G7 Energy Ministerial Meeting that will open this evening.
“It’s been a very useful meeting –commented minister Guidi. - We intend to shortly sign a Joint Statement on themes of common interest: energy security, diversification of supply sources, realization of renewable energy potential, and development of smart grids. It is of specific interest– underlined minister Guidi – the cooperation that we intend to establish in the field of Liquefied Natural Gas, a resource that Canada is rich in and that can contribute to further diversify Italian supply sources away from pipelines”.
Minister Rickford stated: “Today's productive meeting with Minister Guidi advanced the growing energy dialogue between our two countries. Canada and Italy are discussing collaboration that supports a long-term, secure, energy future. We are interested in encouraging diversification of supply, while increasing trade, investment and innovation related to hydrocarbons and renewable energy potential.”
