Born in 1973 in Rome, married, father of 4 children.
He graduated in Law at the University of Rome.
In May 2013 he became member of the Italian Cabinet of Ministers (Letta Government) in charge of internationalization policies and international trade.
In February 2014 he was confirmed by the Prime Minister Renzi as member of the Italian Cabinet of Ministers in charge of international trade and trade promotion policies. He was also appointed as responsible for foreign investment attraction, providing guidelines to the Italian trade promotion and investment promotion agency (ICE- Italtrade).
His responsibilities included: EU trade policy, multilateral affairs, OECD & G20 trade-related matters, bilateral trade relations, trade promotion and inward investment, export finance and credit, support to investment projects abroad.
He has been member of the EU Foreign Affairs Council–Trade (and President in office of the FAC–Trade during the Italian Presidency of the EU Council in the second semester of 2014). He has also been Vice President of the WTO-MC X, held in Nairobi on December 2015.
In the course of his terms in office the Deputy Minister carried out 32 missions abroad that covered 26 countries: 18 business missions leading major delegations of representatives of companies and business associations, the main bodies for internationalization as well as the banking system, and 14 G-to-G missions.
He has also took part of the Prime Minister’s delegations on the occasion of his official visits to Mozambique, Republic of Congo, Angola, Turkey, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Cuba.
He served as Minister of Economic Development in the Renzi Government from May to December 2016.
In December 2016 he was confìrmed in the same role by the new Prime Minister, Paolo Gentiloni.
From March to May 2016 he headed the Italian Permanent Representation to the European Union.
From 2008 until 2013 he served as Chief Executive Officer at Interporto Campano.
From 2004 to 2008 he was Assistant to the President of Confindustria – the Italian Industrial Association, responsible for international affairs, and then Director of the strategic business area.
Before joining Confindustria, he was responsible for product marketing and programming for SkyItalia. Before that, he served as responsible for relationship with financial institutions and for customer relationship management at Ferrari.
